Leaders Show Respect By Listening To Others More and Talking Less.

Writer's picture: Gifford ThomasGifford Thomas

Treating others with respect is a basic foundation for establishing positive relationships, according to Dr. Beth Cabrera. Leaders show respect by giving others their undivided attention. They ask people for their ideas and really listen to what they have to say. This lets people know that they are genuinely interested in them and value their opinions. It makes people feel respected as worthwhile, competent individuals.

If you look bored or interrupt the person, you're showing that you don't really care what he or she has to say. Remember, you are the leader; you have to set the example because you set the tone for everyone to follow. When you are talking with someone, for example, make that person the most important person in the world because it shows a level of respect and appreciation for what the person is actually saying and, in the process, permits others to do the same.
